    The conclusion? Print magazine pages can carry all sorts of graphic references and devices, we know to ‘read’ them as decoration. But the iPad is different, it’s less forgiving than print. On its static screen graphic elements must have a purpose or they become at best a distraction, at worse a confusion. As soon as the user asks ‘is that symbol decoration or function’ you’ve lost them. Everything needs a purpose, and leaving stuff out is as important a decision as adding it – a little goes a long way here.
