I would think some of the problems would be holding the cup, spilling it, not being able to see where it is or reach it. Rather than being too technical or too expensive it could have a measure on the side so you can see how much has been taken for recording purposes. Some sort of lid possibly with a straw to enable a patient who is lay back to drink rather than sitting up. I am sorry but most of this is already in use so not much use really.
